Born in Columbia, South Carolina on August 28, 1948, Rosalie Ruth Kohn, known to her friends and family as Rosie, began her life journey. On May 18, 2017 that journey ended. She was the beloved daughter, of Caroline Haltiwanger Kohn and the late Hart Kohn, Jr. Rosie graduated from A. C. Flora High School; attended Stratford College and graduated from Winthrop University. She received a degree in Early Childhood Education.
Rosie was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She was a faithful member until her health declined. Even in declining health her faith never wavered. Her church family was very important to her.
Rosie is survived by her mother; sisters, Caroline Kohn Crump (Tom) and Patricia Kohn; a niece, Laura Anne Kirkland (Hank); two nephews, Sam Cullum (Heather) and Hart Barber (Alison); great nieces, Jessica Smith (Jordan) and Bailey Kirkland; great nephews, Britt and Will Cullum; aunt, Jane Keels; a Norwegian sister, Gerd Anne Westergaard (Harald); and numerous cousins. Rosie will be missed by her family and all who knew her.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Bernadine at Rice Home for their loving care of Rosie. They truly became like family to her. Special thanks to the Heartstrings Hospice Care Team that ministered to Rosie.
A private funeral service will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be given in her memory to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1715 Bull Street. Columbia. SC 29201. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
