Ruby Brooks, 89, of Johnson Avenue, Eau Claire, died Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Providence Hospital. She passed peacefully from respiratory failure with complications. She had resided with her daughter prior to spending approximately one year at Life Care Center of Columbia.
Daughter of Robert Buckles and Mary McDonald Buckles, she was born in Rockingham, NC, on January 15, 1924.
She was very fulfilled as a home-maker, and was a wonderful "home room Mother". Her love of children was great, and she kept children in her home for many years. After rearing her own children, she was employed at Hyatt Park Elementary School. She will be remembered as a Woman of Faith with a gentle spirit and a smile for everyone. Her joy was her family and her love of College Place United Methodist Church.
She was Mother of daughter, Deborah Avery (Wes); and son, Kent Brooks (Bonnie). Loves of her life also included grandsons, Rob Cooper (Michelle) of Rock Hill, SC, and Chris Cooper, Columbia, SC.
She is predeceased by her Christian husband of 62 years, Paul Brooks. She will join a heavenly band of family and friends, to include her parents; brother, Lloyd Buckles of Anderson, SC; sisters Lois Sellers of Asheville, NC, and Nell Wallace of Rockingham, NC.
At 12:00 on Tuesday, June 25th, a visitation and reception will be held prior to the service of celebration, which will begin at 1:00, at College Place United Methodist Church, 4801 Colonial Dr., Columbia, SC 29203. Interment will follow in Crescent Hill memorial Gardens.
