Ruth McLean, of Columbia, SC, a retired registered nurse and widow of Angus (Gus) McLean, died Wednesday, September 9, 2015. She was 90 years old and was the last surviving member of a generation of McLean siblings and spouses.
Mrs. McLean was a graduate of Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Columbia. She worked at Roper Hospital in Charleston, and for many years at Providence Hospital and The Bryan Center in Columbia.
Mrs. McLean grew up in Woodruff, where she was raised and guided
materially and spiritually by an uncle and aunt, the late Ned and Ebber West, with their two children Eddie and Bill, who were affectionately known as her brothers. After her marriage, she lived for 14 years in Blythewood where, fulfilling the spirit of paying it forward, she provided care and guidance to numerous McLean nieces and nephews. Her nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Ruth and Gus moved to Columbia in the early 1960s, about the time her two sons were born. Gus died in 1975. She is survived by a son, Dr. Daniel Robert McLean of Worcester, Massachusetts, and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Wilton Angus McLean Jr., and a brother, Charles Lawter.
The funeral will be at Sandy Level Baptist Church in Blythewood, Saturday, September 12 at 3 o'clock. Visitation will be at 2 o'clock. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel is assisting the family.
