Rev. Miriam Ruth Sloan Styles, 92, of Columbia, died peacefully on her birthday, July 14, 2018. Born in the Killian Community of Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Washington Grover Sloan and Mamie Lee Livingston Sloan. She was a lifelong member of Ebenezer Holiness Baptist Church and was an ordained minister. Her life's mission was to visit, bake cakes and pies for shut-ins. When she was unable to continue baking she mailed letters and cards to them. When a family experienced a death, whether friend or foe, they would receive vegetables, a meatloaf and a pound cake.
Survivors include her sons, Harold Dwayne Styles (Marcella) and Stephen Ray Styles (Debbie); daughter-in-law, Audrey Styles Johnson (Nate); ten grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; sisters, Sarah Coleman and Rado Cobb. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Washington Styles; a son, Jerry Styles; a daughter, Melody Carpenter; grandchild, Stacy Dwayne Styles; and siblings, Thelma Wise, Mattie Lee Jones, Mary Kneece, Charley Sloan, and Lois Desso.
A funeral service will be held 1 o'clock, Friday, July 20th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. Interment will follow in Ebenezer Holiness Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock, Thursday evening at the funeral home and other times at the home of Dwayne Styles, (803) 237-3879.
