Sadie Hughes Clayton, 73, of Columbia, died Thursday, June 30, 2016. Born in Laurens County to Toy and Beatrice Hughes, she was married to the late Donald Clayton. Mrs. Clayton retired from the South Carolina Department of Transportation, enjoyed working in her yard, and going to yard sales.

Surviving are her son, Smith "Dickie" Briggs (Ann); step-daughters, Donna Stanfield, and Judy Clayton; sisters, Eulabea Mitchum, Syble Brunson, Brenda Jones; brother, Preston Hughes; granddaughters, Samantha Walters, Ashley Briggs; grandson, James Briggs; step-granddaughter, Kayla Nichols; and step-grandson, Brandon Tankersley; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, and second husband, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Smith Dickson Briggs; and a son, Phillip Briggs.

The funeral service will be held, 12 o'clock, Saturday, July 2nd at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., with Pastor R. E. Gibson officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 11 o'clock. Interment will follow at 2:30 o'clock in Warrior Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 139 Cum Laude Way, Gray Court, SC.
