Sal A. Iacolino, 89, of Columbia, was taken by the angels to his heavenly home on Thursday, April 21, 2022, after a long battle with cancer; while never complaining or acting on self-pity. Born September 18, 1932, in New York City, NY, he was a son of the late Angelo Iacolino and Mariana Ales Iacolino.
After 65 years of marriage, Sal leaves behind his loving wife, Rose Marie Louise Iacolino; son, Roy Andrew Iacolino, who was also his special buddy and best friend. Together, Sal and Roy would attend University of South Carolina Gamecock and Atlanta Braves games.
Sal was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, where he served as Head Sacristan and Head Usher for over 25 years. He also served on the Parish Council and in other capacities until his health declined. Sal was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, 2902 Assembly and Council 6847.
Sal was a successful businessman, having owned and operated a floral store, as well as a paint and decorating center. Sal's favorite hobby was gardening and growing vegetables. He enjoyed sharing his crop with friends, especially his lettuce. Sal proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Well done, good and faithful servant.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 o'clock, Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 100 Polo Rd., Columbia, SC, with Fr. Sandy McDonald officiating. Burial will follow at 2 o'clock, at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. The family will greet friends Tuesday, April 26, 2022, from 6 until 8 o'clock, with the rosary being recited at 7:30 o'clock, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Rd.
