Sally Carr (née Sakuko Izumi) passed away on December 9, 2025 following a lengthy and valiant battle with cancer.
Born to Nisaku and Katsu Izumi on August 28, 1931, our mother and her family survived the ravages of WWII before she met and married a young, handsome U.S. Airman, Albert W. Krause, of Richfield Springs, NY. They were soon blessed with the birth of three daughters, Linda, Diann, and Patrica, and, in between assignments around the U.S., they often found themselves visiting Dad's hometown. Sadly, they divorced in 1959, but by this time, our mother now felt Richfield to be her home, so she worked numerous jobs, perfected her English, and provided a safe and comfortable life for herself and her girls in this small, quaint town. In 1963, Mom met and married Milton (Stretch) Carr, a tall, talented carpenter, and they forged a loving and enduring union of forty-eight years until Stretch's death in 2011. Life on her own proved a bit challenging, so Mom moved to the Carolinas in 2012 where cancer took her away from us.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings, Toshe, Shige, Tadashi, Kiyoshi, and Tokuko and Stan's wife, Kathy Carr. She is survived by daughters, Linda (Robert) White, Diann Krause, and Patrica (Tom) Pawling; four grandchildren, Stefanie (Jon) Fowler, Lisa (Jason) Brown, Rachel Pawling and Neil Pawling; two great-grandchildren, Zoey and Luke Brown, and many loving nieces and nephews. In Japan, she leaves behind her brother, Hitoshi (Fumiko) Furukawa and his sons, Akira and Noboru, as well as Kiyoshi's children, Junichi and Sanae. Her stepsons Dave (Pat) Carr, Dennis (Ruth) Carr and Stan Carr also survive her.
Mom baked her way into the hearts of many of her neighbors and friends throughout the years, and also shared her talent for origami with them. To her three daughters, she was their North Star, a guiding light throughout their lives. She showed us that hard work, fortitude, compassion and love are the basic tenets of a life well-lived and she will forever have a special place in the hearts of those she loved and those that loved her.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM May 30, 2026 in Richfield Springs, New York at J. Seaton McGrath's Funeral Home, 40 W James St, Richfield Springs, NY 13439. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family locally.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department in Mom's memory.
