Sally Miller West, 90, of Columbia, died Sunday, November 4, 2018. Born August 25, 1928 in Portland Maine, she was the oldest of nine children of the late George Nathan Miller and Ruth Esther Miller. Following graduation from Deering High School in Portland, she joined the army where she met her husband, the late Clifford D. West. They raised three daughters while he continued to serve in the army. After an overseas tour of duty in Berlin, Germany the family moved to Columbia. Mrs. West worked various jobs in the retail industry while raising her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Deborah Lacey. Survivors include her daughters, Susan Ponichtera of Tampa Florida, and Rebecca Conley (Mrs. Robert) of Decatur Georgia. She is also survived by granddaughters Carole Ficheria and Jennifer Ponichtera, grandson Timothy Lacey, two great granddaughters and two great grandsons.
A service for Mrs. West will be held 12 o'clock, Friday, December 7 at Memorial Gardens of Columbia Mausoleum Chapel. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
