~ Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. John 20:29 ~
"Andy" (Samuel Andrew) Cain was born on Friday, November 21, 1952 to Gus (Phillip Augustus) and Dee (Dolores McCarter Cain) of Gastonia, NC. Andy grew up in Wesley Park with his two sisters, Robin and Allison. He graduated from Hunter Huss High School in Gastonia, NC, and in 1975 graduated from Wake Forest University with a BA in Business. Andy worked many years in both the textile and automotive industries.
Andy loved talking with his wife, Angie. During their many conversations, he'd bring up memories about his childhood in Wesley Park. He'd always say that he felt so blessed to have such a wonderful childhood. He recalled these memories with such vivid detail and was a wonderful story teller. Andy's stories brought joy to so many people!
Andy loved his family. He enjoyed teasing his sisters, but hoped they'd always think of him as a loyal and kind brother. He used to shake his dad's hand before managing to pull him close, and give him a big bear hug, to Gus's chagrin. Andy and his mom, Dee, could talk for hours on end.
Andy also loved his friends, enjoying playing pick-up games of football and basketball, exploring the thick woods surrounding their neighborhood, and having backyard "camp outs" at night. Andy recalled all the fun times of winter snows and sledding with friends. Christmases with his grandparents, Nanny and Paw Paw and Granny Cain, were so special to Andy. He and his family enjoyed having dinner at Granny Cain's, attending the candlelight service at First ARP of Gastonia, and afterwards, cake, ambrosia, and presents at Nanny and Papa's.
Andy's favorite pastime was listening to music, and he loved the variety of music from all over the world on Spotify. In college he would hang out with his friend, Jim, who ran the radio station. Andy was in his element helping Jim spot songs and choose music for the campus radio programs.
Andy's favorite place to travel was the beach, as he did this with his family growing up, and later with his wife, Angie. He enjoyed everything about the beach, swimming in the ocean, laying out on the sand, taking long walks, and eating good seafood. This was he and Angie's favorite thing to do as a married couple, and they would try to get to either Folly Beach or South Forest Beach, Hilton Head in the summers.
Andy loved Jesus. He and Angie would read the Bible together and pray at night. Andy's favorite Bible story was Jesus' Transfiguration (Matthew 17) and his favorite Bible verse was "...blessed are those who have not seen, and yet have believed." (John 20:29). In recent years Andy and Angie participated in Sunday services virtually with the congregation at Northeast Presbyterian Church.
Andy is a kind and loving soul will be greatly missed. He is predeceased by his dad, Gus, and mom, Dee. He is survived by his wife, Angie (Angela), his sisters Robin and Allison (Smith); cousins Ginny Ratchford, Bill Cain, and their families, and many of Angie's family who loved him, too.
The family will be holding a private celebration of life.
