Sanford H. "Stan" Starling, 72, of Columbia, died peacefully Wednesday, November 20, 2013. Born in Jacksonville, FL on January 24, 1941, he was a son of the late Sanford and Mildred Summerville Starling. Stan was a proud veteran of the US Air Force and a member of Capital City Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Margie Phipps Starling; daughters, Barbara (Jeff) Ham, and Jennifer (Phil) Kelly all of Lexington; son, GSM1 (Ret'd), Donald (Jill) Starling of Orlando, FL; sister, Carolyn (Angelo) Fiore of Raleigh, NC; brother, Robert (Jeanne) Starling of Las Vegas, NV; seven grandchildren; uncle, Harry Summerville; aunt, Wink Ganley; as well as several cousins all of Jacksonville, FL.

A funeral service for Mr. Starling will be held at 10:30 o'clock, Monday, November 25th at Capital City Baptist Church with The Rev. Paul Monroe and The Rev. Brian Hunt officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia.
