SFC Hurley Clark Lassiter, US Army (Retired), 82, of Columbia, died Friday, August 5, 2016. Born January 28, 1934, in Louisburg, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Hurley Clark and Ruth Louise Ayscue Lassiter.
Mr. Lassiter was a member of Spears Creek Baptist Church and the Pontiac Masonic Lodge #429. He worked on the family farm until receiving notice to report to duty with the US Army in 1953. SFC Lassiter served four tours in Europe and four tours in Southeast Asia, retiring in 1978 with more than 25 years of service. After retirement he attended Columbia Junior College.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Perdue Lassiter; a son, Joseph J. Lassiter (Emilie); daughter, Christine Ann Bonneford; stepdaughters, Renee Lucido and Sandra Abrams; grandchildren, Jake, Brooke, Shane, Brandon, Matthew and Gabe. Also surviving are his sisters, Cecile Lassiter, Nancy Kittrell, and Patsy Tharrington. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara S. Lassiter; a son, Hurley C. Lassiter, III; and a sister, Betsy Jean Pulliam.
The funeral service for Mr. Lassiter will be held at 12 o'clock, Wednesday, August 10th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext, with The Reverend Greg Sweet officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens of Columbia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5 until 7 o'clock.
