Obituary

SFC Homer Harry "Butch" Eargle, US Army (Ret.), 79, of Blythewood, died at home on Friday, December 22, 2023. Born in Reidsville, GA, on June 17, 1944, he was a son of the late James Nesbit and Gladys Mildred Moncreif Eargle. Following his graduation from High School in Georgia, he enlisted in the United States Army in June of 1967 at Fort Gordon and served in the Military Police Corps until his retirement in June of 1987 at Fort McClellan. Throughout his time in the military, he was stationed at numerous places including Fort Jackson, Hunter Army Airfield, Fort Bragg, and in Germany, Panama, and his favorite, Thailand. During his time in Thailand, he enjoyed learning their culture and the opportunity to see the beautiful scenery.

After the Army, Butch pursued his passion of being a back yard paint and body man when he opened his own shop, Eargle's Paint and Body in 1989. It was there on Leaside Drive in Columbia where he helped customers repair, restore and modify countless cars. Butch owned and operated the body shop until 2022 when his health started to prevent him from working. His free time was spent with classic cars and going to car shows, dirt track racing, being on the water and supporting his beloved Georgia Bulldogs.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Anne Lee Hall Eargle; children, Randall "Randy" Eargle (Athina) and Kevin Hall (Betsy); grandchildren, Evan Eargle, Michael Eargle, Brittany Brown (Ryan) and Carsyn Hall (Blake). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Eargle Ramsey.
