SFC Pedro J. Marzan, United States Army (Ret.), 81, of Columbia and husband of Conchita Marzan, entered eternal rest on Thursday, August 24, 2022.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Marzan will be celebrated at 10:30 o'clock, Friday, September 2, 2022, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 100 Polo Rd., Columbia, SC. Final Commendation and Farewell Prayers will follow at 12 o'clock noon at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Rd., Columbia, SC 29229.
The Rosary service will be recited at 6 o'clock Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends following the Rosary until 8 o'clock.
Pedro was born on April 22, 1941, in Toa Alta, Puerto Rico, a son of Maria Louisa Rivera and Lino Marzan. He was the second oldest of seven children. After he graduated from High School,
Pedro joined the US Army. He served for 20 years in various commands, including during the Vietnam War. He retired in 1978, achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class. Following his retirement from the US Army, Pedro was employed as a real estate agent for many years.
In 1959 he married Conchita Negron. They just recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on July 11, 2022. They raised four children, Henry, Iris, Pedro, and Wanda. In their retirement, they enjoyed taking bus trips, cruises, and car trips around the country. Pedro loved to work in his yard and was always working on a project.
Survivors include his wife, Conchita; children, Henry Marzan, Iris Rivera, Pedro Marzan, and Wanda Pipes; grandchildren, Christina Rivera, Tony Rivera, Craigg Durel, and Noah Marzan; as well as a great grandchild, Tyler June.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be accepted.
