SFC Thomas L. Burt, US Army (Ret.), 70, of Elgin, left us, surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren on Wednesday, March 10, 2021. He was born in Marysville, California on June 22, 1950.

Tom is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Lisa, and their son, Shawn; daughter, Rebecca and her wife, Kimberly; sons, Jeremy Burt and his wife, Morgan, Cody Burt, Joshua Burt and his partner, Valerie. Tom was a proud Pop-Pop to two granddaughters, Samantha and Evelette, and is also survived by his sisters; Karen Crane and Katie De Napoli; brothers, Gary Crane and Joe Burt; and his extended family, Rebecca Cuspid, Sugie Cuspid, and Nadia Martinez.

Tom treasured time with his family and serving as a Boy Scout Troop leader. He loved bowling, golf, fishing and was an active member of Grace Life Church on Clemson Road. Hardworking and dedicated, Tom retired from the US Army after 23 years of service and worked another 21 years at CSC. He was employed at Blue Cross and Blue Shield at the time of his death. He valued his education from Yuba College in California and continued his education at Midlands Technical College. Despite his extensive traveling in his military career, he was an avid University of South Carolina Gamecock fan and always rooted for the home team.

A graveside service will be held at 3 o'clock, Tuesday, March 16th, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from five until 7 o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia.
