SFC Ted Stephen Nimmons, US Army (Ret.), 78, of Columbia, died Monday, January 30, 2023. Ted was born on January 5, 1945, in Anderson, SC.
Ted was a US Army veteran who honorably served his country for over 20 years. While in the military he was stationed in Germany, where he met and fell in love with his wife. They married and had two daughters together. In 1979 he moved his family to Columbia, where he was stationed at Fort Jackson until his retirement. He loved his family more than anything. Ted's greatest joy throughout the years was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. After his retirement from the military, he was employed for the Richland County Sheriff's Department for 10 years. After leaving the Sheriff's Department he managed the warehouse for Carolina Retail and Packaging. From there he took over and owned his own pallet business at Professional Inspection Service. Ted always dreamed of opening a retail shop that offered German meats and groceries and left the pallet business to do just that. He opened The German Meat Market in 2003 and worked there until his illness prevented him from doing so.
Ted loved being outdoors, especially when he had the opportunity to hunt and fish. He enjoyed collecting coins, as well as building model trains and cars.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemarie Antes Nimmons; daughters, Patricia Unger (Jim) and Stefanie Compo (Chris); grandsons, Lucas Unger, Kyle Compo (Aleisha), Alex Compo (Makala), and Jacob Compo; great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Thomas, Destiny Bartlett, Brody Bartlett, Aryia Compo, and Rayven Compo; sisters, Sunny Powell (Tommy) and Beth Engel; brother, David Boltin (Cheryl); as well as his Antes Family in Kaiserslautern, Germany.
