SGM USA (RET) Robert Verner Jensen, of Columbia, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2013, after a lengthy illness. He was a son of the late Arnold and Kathleen Gibbons Jensen.
SGM Jensen was a WWII Navy veteran, and a 30 year Army career soldier. Among his many military decorations and awards, he was named Ft. Jackson's "Career Counselor of the Year" in 1977. Following his military retirement, he enjoyed a new career at the Richland Library Northeast Branch as a Library Assistant, retiring in 1998.
Bob is survived by his wife, Arlene; daughter, Nancy Loch (Hartmut); grandsons, Kevin and Brian Loch, all of Cardiff, CA; brother-in-law, Robert Pfannenstiel (Sarah); nieces, Kristyn Pfannenstiel all of Littleton, CO, and Olivia Zenger of Auburn, AL; along with several nieces and nephews in the Bay Area of California. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Jensen.
A memorial service will be held 10:30 o'clock, Wednesday, January 8th, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3600 Devine St, Columbia.
SGM Jensen's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. C. David Johnson and the entire staff of Palmetto Senior Care-Shandon for their untiring, wonderful care given to Bob for the past 21 months, and to Arlene during the past few weeks. Bob's life was enriched because of the care he received. The "Acute Care for the Elderly" Wing of Palmetto Health Richland Hospital is also to be commended for their outstanding care and compassion given to both Bob and Arlene this week.
