Shirley Bowman Autry, 77, of Columbia, died Thursday, July 31, 2014. Born April 25, 1937 in Bluefield, WV, she was a daughter of the late Cleatus M. Bowman and Ruby Faye Sexton Bowman McDermott. A member of Bethel Baptist Church in Blythewood, she worked for Anderson Armored Car.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Gene Autry; a daughter, Sandra (Ed) Grice of Lexington; sons, Tommy (Cheryl) Taylor, Harold Taylor and James Taylor all of Columbia; step-daughters, Chrystal (Wayne) Alexander, and Sharon Autry, all of Hartsville; ten grandchildren; seventeen great- grandchildren; a sister, Mary (Greg) Robinson of Mount Pleasant, SC; brothers, Richard (Derenda) McDermott of Lexington, Larry (Georgia) Bowman of Summerville, SC, John (Ann) McDermott and James Patrick (Kim) McDermott, all of Charleston, SC; her beloved pet, Mattie; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Kenneth E. J. McDermott; brother, Buster Cleatus Bowman; and sister, Caree Howard.
The funeral service for Mrs. Autry will be held at 2 o'clock, Saturday, August 2nd at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia, with The Rev. Ervin L. Register officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
