Shirley M. Bloodworth, 93, of Ballentine, passed away Monday, June 25, 2018. She was born in her home in Greensboro, Georgia, November 10, 1924, the oldest daughter of the late Oscar B. and Roberta Woodham Moore. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Bloodworth; her granddaughter, Heather Bloodworth; brother, O. B. Moore, Jr.; and beloved sisters-in-law, Marie White and Helen Ann Bloodworth. She is survived by sons, John A. Bloodworth, Jr. (Sandra) and David B. Bloodworth; grandson Jay Bloodworth; and sister-in-law, Mary B. Weinberg.
Mrs. Bloodworth retired from the Bureau of Environmental Health at SC DHEC in 1988. The SC Environment Health Association honored her by naming its award for the outstanding administrate support person, The Shirley M. Bloodworth Award. She was the first recipient. When her sister-in-law, Helen, moved to the Lowman Home, Mrs. Bloodworth began attending Sunday services with her. Shortly after she began to help by playing piano. She continued to play into her nineties. The Lowman Home honored her for more than twenty years of service this year.
The service for Mrs. Bloodworth will be held 11 o'clock, Tuesday, July 3rd at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park will be private.
