Shirley Ann Skipper Melton, 86, of Columbia, died Monday, October 9, 2023. Born November 19, 1936, in Horry County, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Daniel A. and Cecil A. Creel Skipper. Mrs. Melton was the matriarch of her family and took great pride in being a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and homemaker. She was a member of the former Spring Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir.

She is survived by her children, Bryan Melton of Columbia and Kimberly Brown (Jim) of Swansea. She also leaves behind her grandsons, James Brown, Jr and Caleb Brown, as well as her great granddaughter, Zaylyn Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack L.B. Melton and her sisters, Evelyn Timmons and Betty Tyson.

The funeral service for Mrs. Melton will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday, October 11th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext, Columbia, SC with Pastor Thomas Carter officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Iglesia Nueva Esperanza IPHC Cemetery (formerly Spring Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery), 109 Roseberry Circle, Columbia, SC 29223.

The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 1 o'clock.
