Shirley Ann Waters, 88, of Columbia, died Sunday, January 8, 2023. Born September 4, 1934, in Louisville, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Herman Augustus and Virginia Stone Weilage. Mrs. Waters was a member of First Baptist Church in Columbia where she attended for many years and was very fond of the choir. She was a member of Sunset Country Club in Sumter where she enjoyed playing golf in the lady's league. Mrs. Waters was an avid reader who would routinely finish multiple books every week. She was the epitome of a Southern Lady and matriarch of her family. Her greatest joy in life revolved around each of them and she was always proud of their accomplishments. Mrs. Waters will be remembered as a devoted wife, as well as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.

Survivors include her daughter, Cathy L. Banks (Rev. Dennis B. Banks); son, Richard Michael Waters (Robin Waters); grandchildren, Alicia Banks, Angela Hobgood, and Richard A. Waters; great-grandchildren, Derek Banks, Matthew Richburg, Caitlyn Richburg, Haley Dunlap, Jared Artz, and Kasey Artz; great-great grandchildren, Emma, Avianna, Lilith, Ryan, Everleigh, Jayden, and Elise.

The graveside service for Mrs. Waters will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday, January 29th, at Evergreen Memorial Park, 802 N Guignard Dr, Sumter, SC 29150, with the Rev. Dennis B. Banks officiating. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.

The Waters family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and support staff of Prisma Health Hospital CPICU for their exceptional care of Mrs. Waters while she was a patient at the hospital.
