SSG Jerry A. Price, II, US Army (Ret.), 45, of Columbia, SC died Sunday, June 2, 2019. Born in Miami, FL on April 17, 1974, he is the son of Arlena Roosevelt and MSgt. Jerry A. Price (Harvenia), US Air Force (Ret.).
Jerry matriculated through the Miami Dade County Public School System attending North County Elementary School, Lake Stevens Middle School, and graduating from American Senior High School in 1993.
Jerry served in the US Army as a Chaplain Assistant from 1994 until 2014 at which time he became a Drill Sergeant until his retirement in 2017. While in the service Jerry served 4 tours overseas, 2 in Iraq, and 2 in Afghanistan. While transitioning out of the military, he worked at the SC Youth ChalleNGe Academy and the McCrady Training Center. Following his retirement from the Army, he went on to work in security with Richland II Schools, ultimately landing at Catawba Trail Elementary.
Jerry was a loving husband, father and friend who enjoyed traveling with his family. The consummate soldier, he was always a mentor to those around him, especially his fellow soldiers. Dedicated to family, he adored his wife and children, always making time when there was none, to spend time with them. Jerry also loved to watch his hometown sports teams, The Miami Heat and Miami Dolphins.
In addition to his mother and father, he is survived by his wife, Jo A. Johnson-Price; son, Demetrius Lee Roberts; his beloved daughter, Nzhinga Navaeh Price; brother, Merrick Graham (Erica); sisters, Alicia Graham and Latonia Roosevelt; grandmother, Martha Nichols; mother-in-law, Peggy Sims; as well as a host of numerous other extended family members. Jerry is preceded in death by his aunt/bonus mother, Doris Bevel-Graham; sister, LaVonna Graham; grandparents, Judge and Nonia Bevel; brother-in-law, Andre Evans; and father-in-law, Roy Sims.
A service to celebrate the life of SSG Price will be held 1 o'clock, Monday, June 10th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 4 until 6 o'clock at the funeral home.
