Stella Lassiter Murphy, 90, of Columbia, died Sunday, December 4, 2016 at her home. Born in Potescasi, NC, she was a daughter of the late Everette Bruce Lassiter and Martha White Lassiter. Stella was a graduate of St. Mary's School in Raleigh and attended Meredith College before earning a degree in journalism from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where she was a Chi Omega. She was a member St. John's Episcopal Church, Wheat Street.

Stella was a wonderful mother and best friend to her daughter, Martha. They shared many years of laughter, sadness, and togetherness. Stella rarely met a stranger, was a friend to all, and will be forever missed by those whose lives she touched.

Mrs. Lassiter is survived by her daughter, Martha K. Murphy (Bob Selman); sister-in-law, Yelba Lassiter; sons, James Gunn Murphy, Jr. and Carey Bruce Murphy; as well as two grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by her brother, Cornelius Lassiter.

Her memorial service will be held 2 o'clock, Wednesday, December 7th at St. John's Episcopal Church, Wheat Street, with inurnment in the Memorial Garden. The family will greet friends following the service. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
