Steven Mark McCracken lost his valiant fight against cancer and went on to meet his maker and join his Mom and Dad, George Paul McCracken and Thelma McCracken, and brother, Ken McCracken in glory. He leaves behind his loving wife, Diane Porter McCracken; and his step-daughter, Allison Rogers; as well as his son, Jason McCracken and Jason's family. Also deeply feeling the loss of his smile and laughter are his brother, Gary McCracken; and sister, Pat McCutcheon (Hugh). Steve was also especially close to nephew, Eric Billings and niece, Dawn Bailey.
Steve retired from the McEntire Joint National Guard where he did civil engineering type work as a civilian employee. After retiring, Steve continued working with the Trinity Motorcycle Club of Kershaw, SC. It was the comradery and charity work of the club that so sustained Steve. He considered the members 'brothers' and went to great lengths to help them as they did so many charitable events. One special 'brother', Jimmy Faile, was with Steve through the bitter times as the cancer took hold.
Steve will be remembered and loved, but he told us that he was so ready to see his mom again and that the trip was worth it.
The family is so grateful for the loving care of the nurses at South Carolina Oncology Associates (SCOA), the staff of Amedisys Hospice and Keisha and Viola.
The service for Mr. McCracken will be held at 5 o'clock, Saturday, August 24th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel,7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, with Mr. Jimmy Faile officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 4 o'clock.
