Obituary

Sue Pardue Linyard passed away on December 18, 2015 after a courageous battle with scleroderma and pulmonary hypertension. She was born March 2, 1945 in Charleston, South Carolina, the second child of William Freel Pardue, Jr., and Ermyne Langley Pardue Gray. She attended Chicora High School in Charleston, graduating in 1963. At Chicora she edited the school's yearbook, "The Eagle", and worked as one of the first female bus drivers in South Carolina. She was married to her childhood sweetheart, Frank Aimar "Butch" Damon Jr. from 1964 until 1980, with whom she had two children: Langley Susan and David Rhett, both of whom survive her. In 1974 Sue began her career at the civil engineering firm Wilbur Smith Associates in Columbia, where she worked as an executive assistant and as manager of the company's printing operations until her retirement in 2007. Wilbur Smith Associates was more than a job for Sue: she made lifelong friendships with her coworkers whom she considered part of her family, and in 1991, she married Sam Linyard, Chairman of Wilbur Smith Associates, with whom she spent twenty wonderful years before he passed away in 2011. In addition to her career, Sue loved gardening, entertaining, hosting game day parties, her dogs Dallas, Chelsea and Tuli, and spending time with her grandchildren. In 2000 Sue was diagnosed with scleroderma. She lived with the disease for fifteen years and determined to stay active with exercise, traveling and enjoying her friends and family. Much of her confidence in fighting her disease came from other patients and staff at Palmetto Heart Hospital and the love and care provided by the staff at Hawthorne Pharmacy.

Sue is survived by her daughter, Langley Shealy and husband, Tom of Chapin, SC; son, David Rhett Damon of Columbia, SC; stepdaughter, Beth Linyard Calloway of Aiken, SC; grandchildren, Elijah Gray Burch of Columbia, SC and Samantha Jordan Miles of Aiken, SC; sister, Anne Pardue Clary and husband Joe, of Advance, NC; brother, William F. Pardue, III and wife Jody of Florence, SC; and many nieces and nephews in North and South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel E.G. Linyard; and her grandson, Damon Zachariah Slanker.

A celebration of Sue's life will be held at 2 o'clock, Wednesday, December 30th, at 3 Briar Court South, Columbia, S.C. 29223. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Sue's name to the Scleroderma Foundation at scleroderma.org.; or to the Palmetto Health Foundation at palmettohealthfoundation.org. "The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep. And miles to go before I sleep."
