Columbia – Sue J. Long, 73, of Columbia, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2015. Mrs. Long was born on September 1, 1941 in Concord, NC to the late Quincy May Jacobs and Kemp B. Jacobs. She later married and moved to Columbia, SC, where she retired after 30 years from the Richland County school system as a Special Education Assistant at Bradley Elementary School. Sue was an avid reader and loved her grandchildren dearly.
Survivors include her husband, Lewis M. Long; daughter, Pamela K. Sheehan; grandson, Jason B. McCormack; step-son, Lewis Long, Jr. (Delores); brothers, Billy Ray Wilson, Richard T. Jacobs and John W. Jacobs (Shirley); step-granddaughters, Terra Ciurro (Thomas), Amy Lewis (Will); great-grandchildren, Ashton and Dawson Ciurro, Allison, Isabelle and Case Lewis. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha Sue Parker; sisters, Helen Alvarado, Sally Bradbury, Jean Solomon and Kay Francis Thompson.
The service for Mrs. Long will be held at 3 o'clock, Friday, February 6th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road, Columbia. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2 o'clock. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel is assisting the family.
