Susan Sedell Goodman Hazel, 87, of Columbia, died Friday, March 27, 2015. Born in Chappells, SC on October 27, 1927 she was a daughter of the late James O. Goodman and Susie Pauline Smith Goodman. Mrs. Hazel was an active member of Belmont Baptist Church and did a significant amount of missionary work. A loving mother and grandmother, Mrs. Hazel always put the needs of others ahead of her own.

Survivors include her sons, Marion Simms of Columbia, Clyde (Elaine) Simms of North Pole, AK, David (Debbie) Hazel of Lexington, and Randy Hazel of Blythewood; grandchildren, Scott (Sherri) Simms of Tempe, AZ, Pennie (Phil) Newton of North Pole, AK, Kim Fallaw, and David Junior Hazel, both of Lexington. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ray Hazel; and son, John Paul Hazel.

A funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock, Friday, April 3rd at Belmont Baptist Church with The Rev. Brenda Kneece and The Rev. Harry Girtman officiating. Interment will follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10:30 o'clock. Memorials may be made to Belmont Baptist Church, 901 Mason Rd, Columbia, SC 29203. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
