Obituary

Susan Irene Robillard, 77, of Columbia, died on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. Born in Wapakoneta, Ohio, on July 27,1947, she was a daughter of the late Richard Gilbert Strominger and Martha Anne Fisher Strominger. She graduated with high honors from Parkland Community College in Champagne, IL. Balancing her role as a mother and military wife she worked part time as a Registered Nurse for 30 years. Susie specialized as a surgical circulating nurse. She also provided patient care on the med surg floor and in various outpatient clinics throughout her career.

Susie had a servant's heart. She was a military wife of 30 years raising her family of 4 children and loyally supporting her husband's military career. As a family, they moved to different stations around the country. She took pride in settling her family while investing in deep relationships in each community they were stationed in. These relationships were maintained and valued throughout her life. Upon retiring in Columbia SC, she became a member of Transfiguration Catholic Church where she enjoyed being a part of the Columbiettes and joyously served in multiple compassion ministries. In her local community, Susie enjoyed building connections; she formed the Lake Carolina Bunco group, was an active member of MOAA Military Wives Club, and assisted in the founding of the Columbia Fisher House. She mentored and tutored students at Lake Carolina Elementary school and was an avid fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Susie was always the first to volunteer in any given situation or need around her.
