Susan Jane Shannon, 65, of Hopkins, died Sunday, January 25, 2015. Born October 1, 1949 in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Carl Richard Shirley and Ina Carolyn Fisher Shirley. Susan worked in administration at Moncrief Army Community Hospital where she enjoyed her service to the soldiers and families of Fort Jackson, and she later retired from the USC School of Medicine. She was a caring mother and grandmother who had a contagious laugh. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her son, John Thomas; daughter, Carrol Thomas; brother, Carl Shirley (Paula); sister, Linda Reed (Robert); sister-in-law, Jo Ellen White; grandson, David Trice; nieces, Jessica Overton and Amanda Inabinet (Wesley); nephews, Michael Shirley and Robert D. Reed; great-nephews, Peyton and Spencer Overton; and great-nieces, Piper Overton and Heidi Inabinet. In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by a brother, Joel Shirley.

A graveside service for Ms. Shannon will be held 11 o'clock, Thursday, January 29th, at Southland Memorial Gardens, with The Rev. R. Joseph Copeland officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. Susan's family wishes to thank Lexington Hospital and the Third Floor Staff for their love and support.
