Suzanne G. Wright, 75, of Hopkins, died Tuesday, November 1, 2022. Born July 25, 1947, in Miami, Florida, she was a daughter of the late Richard Gallion and Audrey Spawn Gallion.
Suzanne received her bachelor's degree from Tennessee Wesleyan University and later earned her master's degree from The University of South Carolina. She was the matriarch of her family and a homemaker while her husband served for 20 years in the US Army. Suzanne loved traveling, both domestically and internationally, and always had her Ollie the Owl figurine on her journeys. She also enjoyed photography, as well as composing and reading poetry. Suzanne was a member of Shandon United Methodist Church, where she was a Lay Speaker, Lifeline Leader, and attended the Joy Sunday School class. She was a devoted caregiver to her entire family and volunteered for many years at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Columbia.
Survivors include her husband, 1SG Larry Edward Wright, US Army (Ret.); children, Stephanie Wright, Andrew Wright, and Stephen Wright; grandchildren, Matthew Wright, Lindsay Haile, Emily Haile, and Chad Wright; brother, Jim Gallion (Babs) and her sister-in-law, Susan Gallion. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bob Gallion.
The funeral service for Mrs. Wright will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday, November 6th, in the Dunn-Smith Ministry Center at Shandon United Methodist Church, 3407 Devine St, Columbia, SC 29205 with the Rev. Smoke Kanipe officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the funeral service.
The committal service will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday, November 8th at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
