Obituary

Sybil Cline Watkins, 92, of Columbia, died peacefully on November 21, 2022. Sybil was born in Lincolnton, NC on February 28, 1930, to the late Guy Washington and Charlotte Beal Cline. After graduating from Lincolnton High School, she completed Nurses Training at Grace Hospital in Morganton, NC, and worked at McDowell Hospital in Marion, NC. It was in Marion where she met and married her husband, Norris Watkins, in 1953.

Mrs. Watkins worked for 32 years in the Weekday Education Program at North Trenholm Baptist Church, where she was an active member for over 60 years. During those years she cooked for senior adult luncheons, taught "Toddler" Sunday School, and served many years in the Women's Missionary Union and Vacation Bible School. She was committed to serving God through the church she attended. She was an example to her family through volunteering in many areas, participating in Bible studies, preparing meals for the bereavement committee, and serving meals at Providence Home. She was a faithful member of her Sunday School classes both in attendance and ministry. Sybil was one of the charter members of the Prayer Room Ministry of North Trenholm Baptist Church.

Survivors include Charlotte (Rick) Eason of Columbia, Bill (Becky) Watkins of Blythewood, Susan (Rocky) Bronkhorst, of Roslyn, WA; Brad Watkins and Todd Watkins (Caroline Lott) of Columbia; sister-in-law, Agnes Cline of Lincolnton, NC; grandsons, Justin (Hannah) Eason, Aaron (Melinda) Watkins, Thomas Watkins, Josh Horton, Van Bronkhorst, and Zachary Bronkhorst; great-grandchildren, Luca and Lilah Rose Eason, Eli and Avery Grace Watkins, and numerous nieces and nephews. She maintained close contact with her extended family. Until recent years she never missed a family reunion or gathering.

Cline, Jr. (Helen), and Truett Baxter Cline; her aunt, Rachel Cline (Kenny) Kennington; and her beloved sister- and brothers-in-law, Sue and Jim Mitchem, Mildred & Bob Gardner, J.D., and Joan Watkins, Charles & Joy Watkins, Lois & Alan Westcott, and Wilma & Harry Sebastian, as well as many friends from her Springwood Lake neighborhood and North Trenholm Baptist Church.

A service will be held at 12 o'clock, Monday, December 12th, at North Trenholm Baptist Church. The family will receive friends in the worship center one hour before the service. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.

The family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation to the entire staff at Palmettoes on Parklane Assisted Living for their loving care, hugs, joy, and humor they brought into her life.
