Obituary

Sylvia Mae Bennett Cox, 68, of Columbia, died Friday, April 5, 2013. Born January 13, 1945, in Orangeburg County, she was a daughter of the late Franklin M. and Nannie Mae Jackson Bennett. She had worked with Lexington District 5 as a substitute teacher for special education students. Sylvia was a member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, James S. Cox, Jr.; daughters, Penny Cox (Brett) Hall and Robin (Carl) Berry; grandchild, Ian Hall; brother, William P. Bennett; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her brother, Frank M. Bennett, Jr.; and sisters, Helen Easterwood, Barbara Parris, Connie Works and Ellie Edens.

The funeral service for Mrs. Cox will be held 12:30 o'clock, Monday, April 8th, at Riverland Hills Baptist Church, 201 Lake Murray Blvd, Irmo, with The Rev. Tim Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at 2 pm at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock, Sunday evening, at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Dr, Columbia.
