Thelma Lee Carter, 67, was called to the Lord Sunday, May 24, 2015, while at her home in Columbia. Born February 19, 1948, in Rainelle, WV, she was the daughter of the late Elbert Woodrow and Thelma Mae Carter. She was a 1966 graduate of Waynesboro High School in Waynesboro, VA. Thelma attended Ferrum College and the University of South Carolina. She was a member of The First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, SC. Employed at The State newspaper for 20 years, Mrs. Carter then utilized her talents at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Columbia as the Director of Communications and graphic arts.
Mrs. Carter is survived by her husband, Allen R. Carter of Columbia; daughter, Christa (Jason) Scharf; granddaughter, Olivia Scharf, all of Charlotte, NC; sisters, Cheryl (Rusty) Arbaugh, Margaret (David) Batten, all of Waynesboro, VA and sister-in-law, Connie (James) Rouner of Lancaster, SC.
The service for Mrs. Carter will be held at 2 o'clock, Wednesday, May 27th at The First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Derek W. H. Thomas and The Rev. L. Craig Wilkes officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Atrium of Jackson Hall. Burial in the Churchyard will be private.
