Mr. Thomas M. Bigby, Sr., 87, of Columbia, died Sunday, August 14, 2016. Born July 21, 1929, in Columbia, SC, he was a son of the late Glenn E. Bigby and Belle Loyd Bigby.

Mr. Bigby graduated from Columbia High School in 1947 where he excelled in baseball, basketball, and football. He then went on to play professional baseball with the Dotham, GA Browns and Hendersonville, NC Skylarks. He also played baseball while he served in the US Army where he reached the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Survivors include his lifetime partner, Sondra Dyches; sons, Mack (Lisa) Bigby, Mark Bigby, and Rhett Bigby; stepdaughters, Cyndy (Mike) McCormick and Barbara (Bill) Numberger. Also surviving is his brother, Harold "Dickie" Bigby; ten grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Bigby and sister, Edna Bigby.

The service for Mr. Bigby will be held at 1 o'clock Thursday, August 18th, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery with military honors. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
