Obituary

Thomas McClure ("Mac") Brewer, 31, of Columbia, passed into glory at his home, Tuesday, September 24, 2024. He is survived by his parents, Jerry and Mary Anne McClure Brewer, his brother, Walker Brewer (Brittany) and their two children, Hazel and Bobby, his sister, Cason Brewer (Rob), his grandmother, Beverly Cason McClure, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, plus his beloved lab, Lucy.

Mac was a graduate of the Trinity-Pawling School in Pawling, NY, where he excelled as a four-year starting catcher for the prep school baseball league. College took him to Ole Miss for a year and a half, and then he transferred to the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina where he graduated with a BS in Accounting. He was a founding member of the Delta chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity where he made many lifelong friends. As a college student, Mac served in several leadership positions including the Student Government Executive Cabinet. He achieved recognition for several semesters on the Dean's Council and President's Council. Mac never desired to finish second in anything. His drive for excellence was high. He was always ready to meet and acquire new and lasting friends. As his family has been reminded in the past few days, no one had a bigger heart than Mac Brewer. To know him was to know a loyal and devoted friend.

At the time of his death, Mac was Director of Finance & Accounting Search with Turn2Partners based in Washington, DC. Previously, he was an auditor with Ernst & Young in Boston, MA. An incredible athlete, Mac loved participating in many sports and as a fan of the gamecocks and the Boston Red Sox. He was an avid golfer who recently joined Spring Valley Country Club. His goal was to lower his handicap by retirement and join the Senior Golf Tour. During his time in Boston, Mac coached a team of inner-city Little League baseball. He was a wonderful teacher for these young men on the field and off. This was a true joy for him and the kid's loved Lucy. Mac will be remembered by family and friends for his zeal for life and his ability to light up any room he entered. He was quick witted and welcoming to everyone he encountered. His love for his niece and nephew was very evident, second only in his love for Lucy. Mac may have rescued Lucy, but he was confident it was the other way around.

The funeral services will be held at 1pm on Friday, September 27th at the First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, where he was a lifelong member and his beloved grandfather, Hugh W. McClure III, was formerly the head pastor. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church's fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Deacon's Fund, 1324 Marion Street, Columbia, SC 29201.
