Obituary

Thomas Grant Paine, 96, of Columbia, died on Friday, March 25, 2022. Born in Pawtucket, RI, on October 21, 1925, he was a son of the late Fredrick and Emily Hudde Paine. Mr. Paine served 13 years in the United States Navy before serving an additional 8 years in the Army National Guard. Following his military career, he worked for Woonsocket Hospital, now Landmark Medical Center and was a member of Disabled American Veterans, chapters 11 and 13.

Survivors include his daughter, Debra LaRosa (Vincent); and son, Mark Paine, all of Columbia; granddaughter, Kayla Large (Harold); and great-granddaughters, Sydney and Maeve, all of Cumberland, RI; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Henriette Coupain Paine; and siblings, George, Hazel, Winifred, Edith and Doris.

The funeral service for Mr. Paine will be held at 11 o'clock, Friday, April 1st, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 10 o'clock. Burial at Fort Jackson National Cemetery for he and his beloved wife, Henriette, who preceded him in 2020, will be held at 12 o'clock following the funeral service.
