Tom Townsend, 74, of Gaston, SC, died on Friday, January 12, 2024. Born in Florida, he was a son of the late Thomas Seabrook and Marian Clark Townsend. Tom was raised on Wadmalaw Island, SC and spent much of his adult life in Columbia. He enjoyed a prosperous career with Eastman Chemical Company that spanned nearly four decades. Tom was an accomplished musician known for playing the 12-string guitar, piano, and banjo. He was a huge fan of bluegrass music and was part of a popular local band, Crossroads South. He will be fondly remembered for his kindness, big heart, and generosity without expectation.
Survivors include his daughter, Jennifer Grace Townsend (Jack Harrison) of Georgetown TX, as well as his grandchildren, Jordan Seabrook Harrison, Thomas William Harrison, Marion Elisabeth Hawsey, Hunter James Hawsey, and Natalie Grace Hawsey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sara Constance Townsend.
