Vernelle Flake Register, 86, of Irmo, died Thursday, June 7, 2012. Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Victor L. Flake, Sr. and Mae Hornsby. Mrs. Register was a member of St. James United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star for 50 years.

Survivors include her son, William "Bill" (Elizabeth) Register; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Register was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred D. Register and a granddaughter, Morgan Register.

A memorial service will be held at 1 o'clock Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at St. James United Methodist Church with The Rev. Lex McDonald officiating. Memorials may be made to St. James United Methodist Church, 3390 Pine Belt Road, Columbia, SC 29204. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family.
