Vernon "Pedro" Miles, 70, of West Columbia, died Wednesday, April 23, 2014. Born in Florence County on August 19, 1943, he was a son of the late Edward Miles and Maggie Floyd Miles. "Pedro" worked with the Owens Steel Company for 39 years and enjoyed time with family and friends.

Survivors include his daughter, Virginia (Kris) Bortz; son, Clayton Miles; grandchildren, Tabitha, Michael, Mindy, and Tiffany; great-grandchildren, Addyson, Maurley, Jayden, Grayson; and brother, Franklin Edward Miles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Marvin L. Miles, Sr.

A funeral service will be held 11 o'clock, Monday, April 28th at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia. Interment will follow in Celestial Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 o'clock, Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
