Mrs. Virgie Munn McLemore, 100, of Forest Acres, Columbia passed away 25, January, 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. McLemore. She is survived by two daughters, Gail D. McLemore and Sharon M. Ard (Steve); grandchildren, Angela Ard and Michael C. Ard (Patricia); great grandchildren Lorelei Hardy, Grace Ard and Molly Ard.
Virgie was the daughter of the late Luther C. and Pauline Boykin Munn. She was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.
Virgie's office administrative career began in her hometown of Florence, SC. She was the personal secretary for the late Melvin Purvis, FBI G-Man who captured John Dillinger and also the Traffic Manager of his radio station WOLS. Upon her marriage, Virgie, moved to Columbia and was secretary to Colonel P.F. Thompson of the SC Highway Patrol.
Virgie was a former member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church where she was a previous financial secretary. She moved her membership to Asbury Memorial UMC upon the split of United Methodist Churches. Through the years she also volunteered with the American Red Cross in Florence, The Columbia Free Medical Clinic and Providence Hospital in Columbia.
The graveside service for Mrs. McLemore will be held at 2 o'clock on Thursday, January 29th at Greenlawn Cemetery, conducted by the Reverend Laurie Brandes. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
