Virgil Augustine Murphy, Jr., 70, of Columbia, died Sunday, February 10, 2019. Born in Columbia, SC on September 18, 1948, he was a son of the late Virgil Augustine Sr. and Jean Wright Murphy. Virgil served in the United States Army and loved to fish, garden and watch Western TV shows in his free time.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie Carol Reynolds Murphy; sisters, Delores Mayfield, Jill Mahany and Charlene Crumpton (Mike); and a brother, Patrick Murphy.

The funeral service for Mr. Murphy will be held 11 o'clock, Thursday, February 14th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. Burial with military honors will follow the service in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
