Virginia Colon, 87, of Columbia, died Friday, July 8, 2022. Born February 18, 1935, in Cayey, Puerto Rico, she was a daughter of the late Juan Torres and Francisca Bonilla.

Virginia was known for her kindness and hospitality. She always made everyone feel welcome and loved to host gatherings in her home. She was an amazing cook and fed thousands in her lifetime. Her generosity to others and her family was the single most important thing in her life. She always instilled the value of her Puerto Rican culture to her children. Virginia was a loving mother, and had an unwavering commitment to her family, friends, and guests. Virginia's home was her castle, she had a tremendous love of flower gardening, especially roses, and could make anything grow. Virginia had a very strong faith and prayed daily for her family. She will leave a deep void for not only her immediate family, but all her extended family and friends. Virginia will be taking care of many in heaven.

Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Felix G. Colon; children, Felix Colon, Jr. (Lisa) of Lugoff, Ramon Colon (Kathy) of Columbia, Joe Colon of Charleston, Sandra Medert (Greg) of Columbia, and daughter-in-law, Michelle Colon of St. Johns, FL; grandchildren, Millie Henderson, Melissa Nevarez, Jessica Gonzalez, Rachel Colon, Jena Wise, Alexis Colon, Antonio Colon, Jermaine Colon, Brayden Colon and Matthew Medert; great grandchildren, Juliana Davison, Brenna Henderson, Austin Henderson, Collin Henderson, and Mina Stephens; as well as her siblings, Ana Torres, Felipe Torres, and Jose Torres. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Victor Torres, Juan Torres, Lucho Torres, and Iris Torres.

The funeral service for Mrs. Colon will be held at 12:30 o'clock, Thursday, July 21st, 2022, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC. Burial will follow at 2 o'clock at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 20th from 6 o'clock until 8 o'clock with a Rosary service at 6 o'clock until 6:15 o'clock at the funeral home.
