Virginia Kidd Mathis, 99, of Columbia, died on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. Born in Greenville, NC, on September 6, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Jessie B. and Hattie Virginia Blue Kidd. Mrs. Mathis retired from C&S Bank and later volunteered at Logan Elementary School for over 25 years. She was a member of Eau Claire Baptist Church and enjoyed traveling, cooking and Atlanta Braves Baseball.

Survivors include her daughters, Virginia Elaine Mathis Sullivan, of Manning and Linda Louise Mathis Ackerman (Jeff), of Columbia; son, James Frederick Mathis (Tina), of Columbia; grandchildren, Katie Sullivan-Ham (Lin), Jason Ackerman (Lekena), Justin Ackerman (Megan), Christopher Mathis (Layla), and Nicole Rubenstein (Jim); as well as a host of great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Mathis; daughter, Nancy Hyler; and son, Andrew Mathis.

The funeral service for Mrs. Mathis will be held at 2:30 o'clock, Saturday, December 17th, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia. Burial will follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 1:30 o'clock.
