Vivian P. Armstrong, 89, of Columbia, died Saturday, September 10, 2022. Born July 9, 1933 in Lumberton, NC, she was the daughter of the late John Wallace Philips and Cleo Edwards Phillips.

Ms. Armstrong moved to Maryland when she was 18. She worked in Washington D.C. for 10 years and served as a secretary for the Supreme Court. She then moved to Columbia, South Carolina and married. She was a devout mother to her four sons. She enjoyed cooking, spending time with friends and family, being an active member of Fair Lawn United Methodist Church and traveling to their beach house in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina as often as possible. She was a loving mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother; and mother as well to her wonderful sons.

Vivian is survived by her sons, Michael Armstrong (Bobbie Ann), Robert Armstrong (Pam), John Armstrong (Leigh) and Thomas Armstrong (Terri); grandchildren, Marie Branham (Robert), Michelle, Anthony, Caroline, Cathleen Nicole Daughtery (Grant), Haylee Kaye, Jake, Hunter & Hannah and her two great grandchildren; Caitlyn Dailey & James Branham (Marie); a brother, Van Phillips of Buford, GA and sister-in-law, Daneen Sherman along with her nieces and nephews, Nikki Phillips, Jimmy Phillips, Doug Phillips, Molly Phillips and Mitchell Phillips.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, John and Robert Phillips and David H. Armstrong, Jr.

The family would like to thank the staff, doctors and nurses of Life Care Center of Columbia and Lighthouse Hospice Group of Irmo.

The service for Mrs. Armstrong will be held at 11 o'clock, Saturday, September 17th at Fairlawn United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church beginning at 10 o'clock. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
