W. Randolph (Randy) Derrick, 73, of Little Mountain, died on Sunday, May 22, 2022. Born in Columbia, SC on December 27, 1948, he was a son of the late Herbert Joseph (Hub) Derrick, Sr. and Frances Ann Gatlin Derrick.
Mr. Derrick was raised at Eau Claire Baptist Church and graduated from Eau Clare High School and the University of South Carolina earning a bachelor's degree in business administration. During his college education, he paused to serve in the United States Navy where he served a tour in Vietnam. Following his military service, he returned to USC to finish earning his degree. His professional career was spent first with Ervin Company and later Biggers Brothers as the Vice President of Finance in Charlotte, NC. During his time in Charlotte, he was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church where he served as deacon.
Mr. Derrick then returned to Columbia to assist his father in business at Derrick Insulation Company, which is operated today as W.R Derrick and Company, Inc. Once he moved back to Columbia, he served as an Elder and Treasurer for Lake Murray Evangelical Church where he was a member until his death. He loved the Lord and could be seen at church often welcoming and greeting people. Though free time was rare, Mr. Derrick never missed an opportunity to spend a day on the golf course. He helped to establish the Golf Team at his high school and enjoyed playing as early as his teenage years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was always a sharp dressed man and his hobbies included collecting baseball cards, cruising, golfing, working in the yard and shopping for his family.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Annette White Derrick; daughter, Stephanie Derrick Bradley; son, Jonathan (Jon) Derrick; grandchildren, Samantha Linkhorn (Rocky), Tristen Queen, Isaac Queen, Coleman Queen, Lily Scarlett Bradley, Logan Derrick, and Carson Derrick; great-grandchildren, Annabelle Saverance, Myra Linkhorn, Rocky Linkhorn, Samson Linkhorn and Oliver Queen; as well as his brothers, Joe Derrick (Sharon) and Forrest Derrick (Rhonda); sister, Leigh Ann Derrick Brown (Michael); and a host of adoring nieces and nephews.
The family would also like to acknowledge Jacque Kendall, Lisa Morelock, Joey Young and Michelle Floyd for their friendship, support and concern.
The memorial service for Mr. Derrick will be held at 2 o'clock, Friday, May 27th, at Eau Claire Baptist Church, 4427 N. Main St, Columbia, SC. The Reverends Steven Bouknight, Patrick Hollohan and Paul Allen will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service in the sanctuary of the church beginning at 1 o'clock. Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, is assisting the family.
