Walter Milton Best, Jr. passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024. He was born in Columbia, South Carolina on October 14, 1961. Walter was a graduate of Spring Valley High School's class of 1979. He then received his degree in finance from the University of South Carolina in 1983. Upon graduation Walter pursued a career in insurance. He was a supervisor for property and casualty claims for Cincinnati Insurance Company until the early 2000's.

Walter is survived by his mother, Jean Rikard Best; brother's, Arthur Rikard Best (Mary) and James Lawrence Best (Rebecca). He was well loved by his nieces, nephews, great niece and great nephew, Harriette Best Howard (Gray), Rebecca O'Neal Best, James Lawrence Best, Jr., Rikard Frances Howard and Gunner Gray Howard. He was predeceased by his father, Walter Milton Best, and nephew, Arthur Rikard Best, Jr.

Walter was a kind and gentle soul who loved the beach, music, animals, Carolina football and his family. He loved being with his family for Sunday night suppers and weekends at Fripp Island. As of late, he devoted his time to helping his mother and was a good and faithful son.

Services for will be held Monday, October 14th, at 11 a.m. at Northeast Presbyterian Church graveside, 601 Polo Road. A visitation will be held Sunday, October 13th, at 1530 Shady Lane from 4:00-6:00 p.m.
