Obituary

Walter Glenn "Jacque" Smith, Jr., 83, of Columbia, died Tuesday, December 26, 2017. Born in Columbia, SC, on December 26, 1934, he was a son of the late Walter Glenn Smith and Eloise Cynthia Perry. Jacque grew up in South Florida and attended Northwestern University and The University of Hartford. He worked with Zabo Food Service in Chicago for 10 years, and CVI Food Service New York City for 10 years. He was the Founder and President of Quality Cuisine Inc. (QCI) before his retirement in 2008. Jacque was a member of Northeast Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Tensye Lee Needham Young Smith; step-son, William Clay Young (Susie); sister, Doris Redfern; sister-in-law, Lois Smith; step-son-in-law, Timothy Joseph O'Connor. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his step-daughter, Bonnie Young O'Connor; a step-son, Charles Edgar Young; and a brother, Joseph Smith.

The service for Mr. Smith will be held 2 o'clock, Saturday, January 6th, at Northeast Presbyterian Church, with Dr. George D. Crow, III, officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 o'clock in the Atrium of the church. A private burial will precede. The family suggests memorials be made to Northeast Presbyterian Church, Legacy Faith Fund, 601 Polo Road, Columbia, SC 29223. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
