Wilbur Elton Wise, 75, of Columbia, died on Monday, January 13, 2025. Born on April 24, 1949, he was the son of the late Wilbur Aiken Wise and the late Thelma Louise Sloan Wise.
Mr. Wise grew up with a deep appreciation for the natural world. He spent his younger years hunting with his father, a tradition that bonded them throughout his childhood and young adulthood. His love for the outdoors was unwavering, from early mornings spent fishing by the river to afternoons spent cutting wood and crafting beautiful pieces of woodworking. Whether it was the thrill of a hunt, the peaceful solitude of a fishing trip, or the satisfaction of creating something by hand, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life. For over 30 years, Wilbur dedicated himself to his career at Dupont, where he was known for his strong work ethic, integrity, and commitment to his colleagues. His contributions to the company were numerous, and he retired as a respected figure among his peers. Outside of his professional life, he found great peace in his garden, where he nurtured plants with the same care and attention he gave to everything he loved. His gardening skills were admired by many, and his yard became a beautiful reflection of his spirit. A longtime member of the Goff Swamp Club, Mr. Wise enjoyed the camaraderie of friends who shared his love of hunting and the outdoors. His membership in the club was a cherished part of his life, where he formed lifelong friendships and enjoyed the fellowship of like-minded individuals. He will be remembered for his strong character, his kind heart, and his unwavering commitment to the people and passions he held dear. He was a man who loved deeply, worked hard, and lived with purpose. He leaves behind a legacy of love for the outdoors, a lifetime of memories, and a family that will forever treasure the time they spent together.
