William Paul "Bill" Bennett, Jr., 56, of Columbia died October 4, 2017. Bill was born on October 4, 1961 in Columbia, SC to Dr. William Paul Bennett and the late Norma Thompson Bennett. He graduated from Heathwood Hall Episcopal School in 1980 and attended Wofford College where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. Bill then went on to graduate from the University of South Carolina where he earned a degree in business administration. He retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina after many years of service.

Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Thompson Bennett. He is survived by his father, Dr. William Paul Bennett of Columbia; brother, Dr. Allan Thompson Bennett (June) of Hilton Head; and sister, Catherine Bennett Rhea of Columbia. Bill is also survived by his loving niece, Kelsey Elaine Rhea of Columbia.

For all who knew Bill, they would describe him as a loving, big hearted and generous man. He had a wonderful sense of humor, loved to laugh, was compassionate and loved his family and friends.

A graveside service for Bill will be held at 1:30 PM, Sunday, October 8th at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 7100 Garners Ferry Road, Columbia, conducted by the Rev. Wes Church. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the American Red Cross, 2751 Bull Street, Columbia, SC 29201. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
