Obituary

William J. "Bill" Riley, 91, died at his home June 15, 2017, after an extended illness. He was the devoted husband of Dorothy Hollis Riley. They were married for 61 wonderful years! A lifelong resident of Blythewood, S.C., Bill has the distinction of both entering this world and leaving it at the same location: on the beloved family home place.

Bill proudly served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict (1951-1953). His work-related days were spent as a long-term employee of both Fairfield Tractor Company and Fairfield Spreader Company. His strong work ethic was developed at an early age as he had responsibilities on the family dairy farm. His now deceased father and mother, Joseph Oscar Riley and Jesse Lever Riley, instilled the strong values of faith, hard work, loyalty and generosity as Bill grew up learning the life lessons that came from farm life.

Bill Riley was truly a southern gentleman. A loving and faithful friend, he possessed a servant heart: his life was about serving others. It was impossible to out give him! He did not seek recognition for his generosity to others; in fact, he avoided any time in the spotlight!

Bill is survived by his wife, Dorothy, as well as a host of loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bill was pre-deceased by all of his siblings: Miriam R. Leitner, Elise R. Leitner, Lottie R. Leitner, Josephine R. Patrick, Jason O. Riley, and Clyde L. Riley. What a joyous reunion they are having in Heaven!

Graveside services, including military honors, will be held at 11:00 Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, where he had attended since his birth! Immediately following the service, the family will receive guests in the church sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 1801 Cedar Creek Road, Blythewood, S.C. 29016.
