A memorial service for William Van Bradley, 84, of White Rock, will be held 1 o'clock, Monday, October 20, 2014, at Ashland United Methodist Church with The Rev. Michael Bruce officiating. Mr. Bradley died Saturday, October 18, 2014, from complications of Parkinson's disease.
The son of Robert Sidney Bradley and Dorma VanWerry Bradley, he was born in Randleman, NC and raised in Greenville, SC. A graduate of Greenville High School and Furman University, his early years were in food sales. In 1965, he became the business manager of The Methodist Home (The Oaks) in Orangeburg, SC. In 1972, he began the Nursing Home Ombudsman program in SC and served as its director until 1987. Following his time as director, Mr. Bradley held Ombudsman Advisory positions at Mental Health, DHEC, DSS, and the SC Senate, as well as several years as Director of the SC Residential Care Administrators' Licensing Board. He received many awards, including the Order of the Palmetto and the William S. Hall Award. He was also an active member of Ashland United Methodist Church prior to his declining health.
Survivors include his wife, Kaye Waddell Bradley of White Rock; daughter, Lynn Stubbs of Irmo; sons, Walter Bradley of Cayce, Bill (Ann) Bradley of Lexington; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Betty B. Ambrose of Seneca; along with numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert C. Bradley.
